About Us

Dairy Farmers Milk Cooperative (DFMC) is an independent farmer-owned cooperative governed by its 1820 members. Its role is to use its collective milk volume, capital and membership to manage mutually beneficial milk supply agreements primarily with National Foods.

DFMC's core purpose is to look after our members by providing value, security and guidance that maintains a viable and sustainable income.

The core strategic focus areas that underpin DFMC serving its purpose and achieving our vision include the following key areas:
  1. Pricing & Policy
  2. Managing Milk Supply
  3. Member Services
  4. Investment Strategy
  5. Communications
  6. Marketing & Branding

Additionaly DFMC provides:

- Long term security of milk off take,
- An option for farmers in each region to grow,
- A commercial milk price and long term commercial supply arrangement, and
- Benefits and services to farmer members consistent with the core values of the membership and cooperative philosophy.

Farm-gate milk prices paid to members are negotiated by Dairy Farmers Milk Cooperative with National Foods. A range of factors influence farm-gate milk prices, including competitor activity, on-farm conditions (in particular drought and other extreme weather conditions), the end product that the milk is used for, and dynamics in the consumer marketplace.

The Cooperative plays a significant leadership role for maintaining the sustainability of the wider dairy farming industry and its communities. DFMC helps positively position dairy foods and in particular milk, as a staple part of a healthy diet.
